Hello, welcome to my holiday blog!
For years I’ve always been interested in the way different people celebrate various events, holidays and festivals. Growing up in Taiwan allowed me to experience a unique culture exceptionally different from the Western culture. It would be interesting for me to learn and discover how certain groups celebrate different holidays or events.
Therefore, my holiday blog will encompass a wide range of perspectives on holidays (with emphasis on those from October to December) that are largely celebrated in the United States.
I will be conducting interviews that range from costume shop vendors to pastors at a church to understand more about why and how people celebrate. I will also have links to appropriate websites and pictures on my blog to illustrate the immensity of specific holidays celebrated around this time of the year.
I am excited for my blog entries for I feel that I will be able to gain insight into different cultures. I will then be able to compare the information that I’ve collected to my own experiences with Chinese culture and celebrations. Personally, I am somewhat familiar with many Western holiday traditions, but rarely had the chance to participate in the festivities associated with such occasions. I was more exposed to holidays celebrated in the Asian culture and through this blog; my cultural experience will be enhanced significantly.
Feel free to leave a comment about how you celebrate certain holidays when applicable!
